Members of the Criminal Police Directorate (UKP) entered the headquarters of the Narodni pokret Srbije (NPS) in Belgrade on election night, after polling stations closed in local elections held in 10 municipalities in central Serbia.
According to NPS president Miroslav Aleksić, police officers arrived with a warrant to search the premises and seize phones and laptops. At the time, party representatives were in the headquarters awaiting election results.
He stated that around ten UKP officers entered the premises, and that additional intervention police units were later called to the scene. Several vehicles of the intervention police reportedly arrived.
According to his account, police searched all rooms and seized party-owned phones and laptops. Private devices were not handed over. Individuals present in the headquarters were reportedly kept in one room and allowed to leave only under police escort.
The warrant, he said, cited suspicion of the criminal offense of “violation of voting rights.”
“This is non sens,” Aleksić said, rejecting the allegations and describing the police action as repression.
